Sunsets are familiar enough that it is easy to stop seeing them. I photograph them because every few minutes the same landscape becomes a different picture — color, haze, cloud and exposure constantly rearranging the scene.

Chasing the last useful light

The photographs here are about that transition rather than a single perfect orange sky. Some evenings are dramatic; others are almost monochrome. What interests me is the way low-angle light reveals texture and depth that disappear during the middle of the day.

The gallery will continue to grow as I work through older photographs and add new images from California and wherever else I happen to have a camera when the light changes.
